Hand drawn salmon slowly decaying into bones, fireweed, lupine, forget-me-nots, blueberries, mountains, mussels & barnacles, ferns, moth, raven, wolf, spruce, braided river, canoe, roots, and various mushrooms of Alaska (morel, inky cap, shaggy mane, bolete).

Salmon are a keystone species, meaning that they are an integral species that their ecosystem depends on and it would change drastically without them. When they return to their home streams to spawn and die they provide an influx of nutrients to the surrounding ecosystem and its inhabitants. Their carcasses are consumed by insects, which will eventually provide food for their young when they hatch. They are carried deeper into the surrounding forests by birds, bears, and other critters bringing nutrients further into the surrounding forest. This influx of nutrients keeps the surrounding forest healthy - a study found that these threes can grow up to three times faster!
